I really enjoyed IDEA day this year; both the strength of the sharing on issues related to abstinence but the diversity of the speakers as well. It wasn't a cookie cutter approach as we had 3 speakers whose disease manifested itself in very different ways; who had different approaches to abstinence and yet shared a thread common to all of us, that recovery in OA works, if you work it, because it's a program that goes beyond the physical to address the core spiritual and emotional healing necessary not only for abstaining from destructive food behaviors but for living life better.

More good stuff I've heard at meetings...

If you pray, don't worry. If you worry, don't pray.

Thank God, I don't get what I deserve.

Amen to that!

Resentment is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.

I was at a meeting recently and heard the following:

Don't tell God (HP) how big your problems are; tell your problems how big your God (HP) is!

Great advice for putting our daily cares into proper perspective.

Questions for the group...
How many people do you sponsor at any given time?
How do you know what is the appropriate number for you is?
After completing the steps, what happens next?

I am so happy with all the ideas people are sharing regarding sponsoring. It helps me create a resource I can offer to a "potential sponsee," to develop a better plan, enhancing the likelihood of them getting more out of working the steps. I must remember as well, that these are all ideas/suggestions, not a measure to compare myself to. Thank you to everyone for taking the time to attend, sharing and believing in our program.
I was at this meeting with 4 or 5 others including Amy K. I needed to get off the dime with respect to my 4th step inventory and this really helped to move me in the right direction. I don't know why I find it so hard to use the tools of recovery when every time I do the proof of their power is so clearly demonstrated.

Wow! Last night's initial session of the Sponsoring Workshop was so encouraging. First, because of the 2 dozen plus OA members who showed up to learn how to sponsor or sponsor better and then because of the great information shared by those in attendance. I was pleased to find out that the sessions will be recorded (last night's was the first) as I'm definitely going to have to listen to each session to make sure I harvest all the rich information and advice available.

Thanks to Emily A. for organizing a wonderful series and thanks to all those who shared their experience and insight in sponsoring in Sunday's session. I look forward to next Sunday's meeting.
