Recovery on Higher Ground – The 2014 State Convention
What a weekend we had in Frisco, Colorado; celebrating camaraderie, hope, strength and experience. For those who attended, it was a “feast of recovery.” Aspiring to live on “higher ground” allowed for an atmosphere of humility. People seemed hungry for hearing a story of “hope.”
Stories of Experience, Strength AND Hope
Our speaker was dynamic and approachable. She had released around 150 lbs. She took ever opportunity to illustrate how our traditions applied, as she shared her recovery process with our disease. She exuded a delightful, uplifting appreciation for how the steps of our program, led her to freedom from the ravages of a life as an active, compulsive overeater. It was extremely helpful and encouraging.
All the speakers brought their own unique personalities and gifts to their breakout sessions.
Other Blessings
Many attending members took advantage of the morning yoga “meditative movement” in the lovely setting around the pool area. We were blessed with an large number of donated baskets for our drawing. It was obvious that an amazing amount of creative work, thought and generosity went into each one of them. We so appreciated all the group’s efforts.
A Historical Perspective on OA
The movie featuring OA’s founder, Rozanne , brought a refreshing historical perspective to the weekend. Even some of the hotel personnel were moved by the history of Overeaters Anonymous and its impact in saving so many lives. It was filmed around the time when Overeaters Anonymous celebrated its 40th anniversary.
Gratitude is the Heart of Recovery
Thanks are in order for the committee, that showed up and cared enough to put their heart and soul into the organization of the event. It showed!
Thanks are in order as well to all the members that made the effort to attend. This is a “we” program. We all need each other. When we gather in this fashion, we each strengthen our own program and that of OA as a whole…and for this we are all responsible to ensure OA is vibrant and here to stay.

Experience or Re-Experience Recovery on Higher Ground
We were fortunate for our hard working event ‘audio-graphers’ in capturing the experience, strength and hope of the event. And we’re grateful that we can make the weekend’s recordings available here. Listen and share!
